BCICA welcomes new member: E-Thermal Insulation Ltd.

Steve Saunders, E-Thermal Insulation Ltd.

“No matter what you do, do it well, to the best of your abilities.” These are words to live by for Steve Saunders, BTTM, principal, estimation & project management for the BCICA’s newest member, E-Thermal Insulation Ltd.

Saunders is originally from the prairies, just outside of Edmonton. He worked as an insulator for many years, both locally and in neighbouring communities, before acquiring his Red Seal.

“Eventually, I began learning more about business and management through courses at NAIT,” Saunders says, referring to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. “After I completed a bachelor’s degree, my family and I were given an opportunity to move to BC and continue working in the industry.”

They took it, and in 2017, Saunders ventured out on his own and incorporated as E-Thermal.

“Not many people know what an insulator does, so I enjoy educating others about the work we do and the purpose of our trade,” he says. “I enjoy having our staff recognized by customers for their premium work completed on job sites.”

The team at E-thermal prides itself on being insulators first, although the company also offers firestopping and heat trace services. “We enjoy working on job sites that keep our core team busy, such as high-rise commercial/residential towers, manufacturing facilities, and institutional buildings,” Saunders says. “Our clients know that we will service all projects, no matter the size.”

E-Thermal typically operates between 10-20 staff in the field and is looking to expand operations over the coming years.

Deciding to join the BCICA was about making connections and working with other contactors that maintain a high bar in the insulation industry. “We recognize the BCICA for its community, collaboration, and the level of standard it seeks to achieve,” Saunders says. “Our team desires to assist in leading the movement toward industry excellence.”

He would like to see the association provide resources on trade awareness, recruitment, and training.
